Black Women’s Workshop

held at Lismore Women’s Festival

NCADA were honored to be part of the Lismore Women’s Festival held on 5 – 8 March 2021. Our workshop, Black Women: Our Voice, Our Platform, Our Future was held on Friday afternoon, following a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome from Widjabul Wia-bal woman Cindy Roberts.

The event was well attended by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous women (and 1 man). The amazing panel consisted: Aunty Thelma James, Aunty Jenny Smith, Maurita Cavanough, Georgina Cohen and Gemma Roberts. The event was facilitated by Peta-Lee King. A very powerful and healing event. Thank you everyone that participated. Special thanks to panel members for their strength and courage in sharing their stories and to Kayeleen Brown and the YWCA for allowing us to be a part of the festival.

NCADA and local Indigenous are now contemplating forming an Aboriginal women’s Alliance for this Region to advance the issues face by women and provide a support network for one another. Watch this space!
